Lord Avedon has a problem. Generations of Avedons have watched over Avedon Hill and controlled the only pass through the Lantis Mountains. Traditions are important to the Avedon family, but one tradition has tragically come to an end. Gretta Platt, Housemistress of Avedon Manor, has been murdered. A member of the Platt family has always served the Avedons as Housemistress-- until now. Only a handful of people live at Avedon Hill, and most are suspects. Arames Kragen, retired Aarronic Advisor and scholar of prophecy, arrives at the gates of Avedon Hill, hoping to gain access to the mountain pass. Lord Avedon is not in a giving mood, however. This is the story of Arames Kragen and his attempt not only to discover who killed Gretta Platt, but also to uncover the truth about a town that apparently has more secrets than inhabitants.

I agree with Paul. I cannot recall reading the speech. We all know the snippet, "...give me liberty or give me death!" P.G.'s reading breaths life into the moment, and he delivers it with passion and clear understanding of the verse.

Well done, indeed.

Excellent reading.

I think this may be the first time I have heard the entire speech. I have no memory of it from school save a reference to the famous, "give me liberty or give me death" speech. Hearing those words in context and read with such passion has brought me so much insight as to the truth of the times.

Thank you for sharing this,
Paul Fischer

Man! I didn't win. What a bummer. Now I'll have to pony up the dough and buy the swag. Very cool broadcasting the event. For some reason my corporate firewall wouldn't let me watch it live but did let me watch the video you posted about 30 minutes later. Thanks for having a contest. It was very cool of you. Hopefully a lot more of the "free" listeners will return the favor by buying a t-shirt or book. I'm looking forward to Sunday.

Much respect,
Dave M.

Valerie, that's very cool about the auto show! One thing on my "To Do List" is to put up a flier that people can print out to spread the word. Argh.

For my voice contributions, check out Chasing the Bard ( http://chasingthebard.com ), The Metamor City Podcast ( http://metamorcity.com ) and a short story by Jonathan C. Gillespie called Tex's Last Run ( http://www.variantfrequencies.com/2008/04/08/texs-last-run/ ). I've done some other small contributions, but those are the big ones.

On this site there are two short stories (my T-Minus 2 and T-Minus 1 episodes). One is set in the Land of Caern, another is a story about meeting Scott Sigler for the first time
( http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/archives/76 and http://www.pgholyfield.com/maah/archives/78 , respectively).

What an exciting time for you and all of your listeners! I am looking forward to all your “offerings” in July. Multi-media Avedon Hill….can’t wait!!!

I am hoping to receive my copy of MaAH this coming week. I don't know what to do!! Wait for the podcast, or just dive right on into the book...hmmmm. Tough one!

In other news…

This past Saturday, I was at car show and I can’t even tell you how many times I pimped out MaAH. I was shocked at how many people, who love literature, had no idea how many wonderful works are floating around the podosphere. So, if you ever come across a Mustang’s Club Business Card with, “Murder at Avedon Hill” printed on the back, you’ll know where it came from!

Lastly…

Do you have any links to past voice contributions or readings of your original work? I am sure a lot of listeners, myself included, would love to check them out. If this is already posted somewhere on your site, forgive my ignorance and point me in the right direction.

Thank you, as always, for all your hard work!

Hi there, PG! I honestly have to say that this is by far the BEST podcast novel I have had the pleasure to listen to.

As Tolkien has long been one of my favorite authors, I have waited quite a while to be drawn into new great fantasy world. You pulled me into Caern, and I can’t wait to dive in and learn all about it.

You have done a brilliant job with the podcast! Does it kill me to wait for new episodes?? Hell yeah…but only because each episode is better than the next! (Plus the fact I LOVE Sir Arames….grrrr!)

The music is incredible…I have never heard anything quite like it and think it is a perfect fit for MAAH.

I am so jealous of the of all your guest readers. I got in late in the game, but hope to jump in the next time you do something wonderful. Everyone has sounded great!

You have given the world a very generous gift. I intend on buying the book, ASAP, and spreading the word about MAAH like a mad woman. Thank you, thank you, thank you from a very thrilled, podio-addict!

Damn P.G., curse you for hanging us at such a cliffhanger!!

Really though, this episode was absolutely awesome. Great story line, and great way to finish part 1.

I can't believe you haven't had more comments by now. This episode was (according to me) right near the top of your work. I don't really know why I liked it so much. Maybe the way you narrated the events in this episode, maybe the cliffhanger, although you might not really call it a cliffhanger, but I'm very eager to know what happens next.

Excellent episode P.G.! I stumbled onto your site after hearing about it on Scott Sigler's site. I have visited dozens of different sites and have listened to hundreds of hours of audio. I can, with confidence, tell you that your site is well above average. It's a nice blend between straight reads and the full cast ensemble dramas. I listen for six to eight hours a day while I work and found myself voraciously listening to the archived episodes.

I have always streamed the audio I listen to straight from the web sites directly. Your show is so good that I have investigated pod catchers, pod casts in general, signed up or iTunes and PodioBooks and (drum roll) purchased my very first MP3 player so that I can listen anywhere. (Seriously, this is huge props, none of the other web sites managed to do this.)

I hope your father's day broadcast was a success. I was mad at myself for not setting an alarm so that I could catch it once I realized it was too late. If you recorded it you should put it out on a stream so that those of us that missed it can join in after the fact. Please consider doing another one in the future!

This last episode was riveting and I was bummed to realize that I had listened to everything out there. I will be sure to enter your contest as I would love a shirt. :) (I'll buy one even if I don't win though. LOL)

Keep up the good work! You have a made a loyal fan of me. I am listening to Heaven now by Mur Lafferty as a result of your site, waiting for your next episode to arrive.

Best regards and much respect,
-Dave M.

That's 8:30 AM on June 16 for me.

I probably won't be able to attend it because of the pathetically low internet speed I have (256 kbps), and even if there is a low bandwidth version that you put up, I'll be late for it because there're power cuts in my town every day for two hours in the morning from 6:30 to 8:30 AM, which seems to extend for a quarter of an hour to half an hour most of the time.

There really is nothing you can do about it. Its just my bad luck. You've got fans all over the world, and I'm sure that what you're doing will be best for the majority of users.

I'm still in love with your novel, P.G., and your novel is still my favourite.

I hope it goes well.

I was wondering about the time n the UK. I thought it was 5 hours, and not 7 :-(

Well, I certainly understand. If it works, I should be recording the event through ustream. I based the time on having the best chance of pulling in west coast listeners (post father's day events) and so a certain kiwi can attend.

Rob - I was in a similar situation to you as I came to the show late and listened to loads of episodes in one go. Having to wait was like torture! I solved this by buying the book and finishing it that way.

I am suprised you don't like the - that totally makes the whole podcast experience for me. I even went out and bought the album. Still everyone is different!

Sukarn, JC Hutchins not only infented the word cliffhangered, he perfected it.
PG seems to be learning a lesson from the master cliffhangerer (now i am sure that is not a word)

Kitty, welcome to the world of MaAH and Caern, i have been hooked from day one (I even got my daughter hooked on it). and like Sukarn, i KNOW this is the best podnovel out there

I was told that I should try podio books, as being a mother of 2 with a full time job, I wasn't getting the amount of reading I was use to.

A few weeks ago, a dear friend of mine Kellen, suggested I should listen to MAAH. I have been hooked on this ever since.

Now I can't wait for the next ep.

My significant other, wants the Novel he was highly impressed with what he heard, but having time to read allows him the opportunity for the actual Novel.

Ok, I'm being long winded.. Thank you for sharing this well written and spoken, novel.

-Till the next

Thanks Sukarn, as always. You should really call the Caern line so I can show you some love on the upcoming listener appreciation bonus ep. (June).

I'm shooting for Friday for ep. 22. (EDIT: Sunday or Monday... didn't finish tonight and heading to raleigh on saturday).

Thanks for the comments, rob! Sorry about the dislike of the music... I can try to make the 'music breaks' in the narrative a bit shorter, but I won't be changing the intro/outro music. I've had nearly universal praise over the music choices, so I'm not going to change now. :)

I do understand that the inconsistent release schedule is annoying for you. Frankly it annoys the hell out of me too, but I have a limited amount of time to put these episodes together. I hope you can remain patient while I continue trying to put out a quality product as fast as I possibly can.

hi pg
i would like to say that the book is great!
it reminds me a little of isaac asimovs alija baley charactor the way he sees the world with a different perspective and is able to come to conclusions by in depth analasis of the evidence, excellent.
as always though nothing is ever perfect!
:OP
firstly i was originaly listening to 4 episodes a day for a few days when i first started the book. before i caught up and i must say there is to much additional music for my taste...way to much ,and that violin!!!!agghhhh.
horrible.
but the main issue i have is that the gaps between the episode are huge!
i find i have forgotten half the story line and that i lose touch with the story and i find it very difficult to get back into the groove.
dont get me wrong i still love the book and will look forward the the conclusion .
yours

well done, my friend

I should have waited to listen to the epsiode for when you got #22 out. okok, i will keep comments to myself before i let the cat out of the bag and i get edited again. but i like how things are turning out, follows some suspicions and thoughts i had for what was going on and about how the killer got to Gretta (If she was actually was killed).

Hey Treed - great intro! Well done you, Abby and Lolly. ;-)

I would love to visit some podcast meetups but not a lot happens over here in the UK. However the supremely talented Mike Bennett has said he may do a book launch in Brighton in the South of the UK if he decides to launch OATS in print.

You well and truly cliffhangered us there you cad and bounder! It was as always a fantastic episode. I don't know quite how you manage this level of excellence whilst being a stay at home Dad. I struggle to make a cup of tea when in charge of the children! Thank you also for your plug - very much appreciated even though I am English ;-)

the closest any podcaster as gotten to me is houston (the sigler book tour)

if you get within 400miles of san antonio, i am there (with family in tow)

hell, i'd even go to el paso (10hr drive, well actually 8hrs for me, low level flight, ya know), sit would even do that 14hr drive to sante fe, NM (alburquerque would be better, though, like it better there).
wife has been hinting at me to do a math podcast. i haven't a clue how to do this and it would need to be video (i can't talk math without a whiteboard)

i am rambling now, goodbye

OH and PG, thanks again for the opportunity to do the SSF. Abby sounds great (sound did Lolly, our lovebird)

Ok, ep. 21 WILL be released tomorrow (today, actually). All I have left to do is add a few sound effects, mix down the audio, listen to it, and then upload it to the server. This will take a couple of hours, so I'll do this tomorrow afternoon. I can't stay awake any longer. Later.

very cool, Nick!

Ok, you bastages. I am canceling date night with the wife so I can try to finish the episode. So while you are enjoying a night with your family (except for treed, who apparently sits in iTunes pressing the Update podcast button for MaAH every five minutes), I'll be working... for Nick, who bought a MaAH shirt from cafepress even though I haven't said word one about my old store on cafepress.
